Rathfriland U9s 1

Lisdrum 1

RATHFRILAND U9s travelled to Carnbane on Saturday morning for three matches, their first against Lisdrum and earned a deserved draw.

Rathfriland started strongly with some good passing in midfield from Andrew Pollock and Jack Baird which created a few good chances for Jason Weir up front, but it was Lisdrum who took the lead after a long range shot found its way over the advancing goalkeeper.

Rathfriland were in control of the second half pressing forward and it came from man of the match Jason Weir who finished well after beating two defenders.

The game finished as a draw and the Rathfriland lads were well pleased with a draw against a strong Lisdrum team.

Killowen 2

Rathfriland U9s second match of the day was against Killowen, a top of the league team.

Rathfriland seemed to be slow to start which gave Killowen a chance to score first from a well worked attack.

It wasn't long until the lads were two down against a strong physical team but this seemed to change the game and Jason Weir was able to get a goal back for Rathfriland.

Rathfriland pushed well towards the end with some excellent play from Matthew Corbet, Andrew McCartney and Andrew Pollock, but were unable to equalise.

Windmill Stars 1

Rathfriland started their third game of the day strongly and were a match in all departments to a Windmill team who are second in the league.

The defence was firm with Will Cromie, Thomas Ingram and Kirk Chambers clearing the ball well. Ceolan McKiney in goals kept Rathfriland in the game on two occassions but was unable to stop Windmill taking the lead after a goalmouth scramble.

Once again the midfield pushed forward with determination with Jason Weir coming close on a few occassions.

Despite the scoreline the lads from the hill can be proud on their performances all over the pitch.
