Young Fourths side suffer a heavy defeat at Mossley Thirds

Banbridge Men’s Fourths, sponsored by Edina, travelled to the Glade to play Mossley Thirds in their first encounter of the Junior 3 league season.

The fourths were put under pressure from the start by a very experienced Mossley team. They scored from a two on one attack to make it 1-0. Minutes later they were awarded a short corner which was fired low past a helpless Banbridge defender.

Banbridge did start to produce more attacking threat as the half wore on, but were penalised following two quick counterattacks to make it 4-0 at half time.

Roger Martin was pushed into the centre of midfield in the second half to help provide more experience and guile. The play from Banbridge fourths continued improving as the team began to impose themselves more on the game, but as they pushed harder it left them more susceptible at the back. Mossley scored again from a short corner to make it 5-0.

The next incident turned out to be the killer blow. With only eleven players and no substitutes Bann lost David Morrison through injury. This left ten players on the field and the remaining twenty five minutes was a matter of damage limitation.

The team fought to the bitter end and were valiant in defeat. The final score was ten-nil to Mossley.

The young Banbridge team will learn from this and hopefully rectify it against Instonians on Friday night at Havelock Park. All support is welcome.
