Wins over Ports and Lurgan Town

BANBRIDGE Town U9s played their first games of 2013 after the winter break on Saturday and came away with a draw and a win against Lurgan Town and Portadown.

In their first game against Lurgan Town the two teams attacked each other right from the start in a very exciting game.

In an end to end game Banbridge made the breakthrough first when a mazy run to the byline and a cross from Josh Kerr was swept into the net by Patrick McGrath.

With Banbridge now going for the second goal Lurgan got an equaliser on the counter attack to leave the final score 1-1.

In their second encounter against Portadown boys both teams played some superb football but once again the Town got their noses in front when a carbon copy of the goal in the first game allowed Josh Kerr to cross for Patrick McGrath to find the net.

Banbridge played some fantastic football from then on and with fullback Lee Whitten driving foward and the calmness of Calum Kermath at the back.

The locals were attacking from all over the pitch and they soon got their second goal when Josh Kerr dribbled through to slide the ball into the corner.

After the second goal Portadown took control for 10 minutes and pulled one back and only for a super save with his legs by Kyle Bradford and a brave goal line clearance by Owen Wilson Portadown could have been on level terms.

With a few minutes remaining Adam Hamilton calmed any nerves when he hit a thumping shot into the corner to leave the final score 3-1.

This was another superb performance by the Banbridge team as they continue to improve every week in their development league.
