Wilson sets off for Masters World Cup

The veteran defender, who played for Carrick Ladies for most of her life, is part of Irish women’s Over-50s squad which sets off for Holland this week to compete at the FIH Masters World Cup.

The tournament, which takes place simultaneously with the Rabobank Hockey World Cup in The Hague, will see several age groups (40 and above) battle it out at the home of HC Rotterdam - one of the biggest hockey clubs in the Netherlands.

The competition begins on Thursday (June 5) and runs until June 13.

Wilson, now of Larne Ladies, is part of the 17-strong Irish panel who have lost none of their competitive edge.

The action kicks off against the United States of America on the opening day, followed by a demanding five-in-row fixture list when the girls in green will be tested to the limit against Wales, the Netherlands, Australia, England and New Zealand. The play-offs are scheduled to take place on Friday, June 13.

Wilson, who is about to emabark on her second Masters tournament, isn’t the only East Antrim representative in the squad. She is joined by fellow club-mate Anne Snoddy and Ballyclare Ladies’ forward,Dee Wallace.
