Williamson wins it for Dromara U13s

Dromara Village U13s 2

Lurgan Town 1

RYAN Williamson's late strike was enough to secure Dromara their first win over Lurgan in a pulsating, chance filled encounter at Moira.

It was Lurgan who hit the ground running, and took the lead through a penalty in the opening five minutes after Keith McGuigan's clumsily timed challenge brought down the Lurgan forward, who stepped up to confidently slot home the resulting kick.

Dromara responded brightly however and almost equalised soon after, slick play on the edge of the area setting free Matthew Fitzsimons who managed to skew wide from a matter of yards while one on one with the Lurgan goalkeeper.

Fitzsimons thought he should have been awarded a penalty minutes later after outpacing the Lurgan defender only to be brought down from behind as he prepared to shoot. However his appeals were turned down by the referee.

With minutes remaining until half time Fitzsimons finally got the goal he and Dromara deserved, lobbing the quickly advancing goalkeeper to equalise.

Half time proved welcome respite for an under pressure Lurgan side and they used it to their full advantage, beginning the second half as the more creative and dangerous of the two teams and nearly grabbed a second only for Connor Mallon to clear off the line.

Dromara gained control of the match after and began to lay siege to the Lurgan goal, a game of pinball in the goalmouth from a corner finally finding its way to Mallon who saw his effort also cleared off the line by an excellent piece of defending.

This Dromara pressure continued but they were limited to half chances, such as Ryan Williamson's long range effort that was gathered easily by the 'keeper.

But the Lurgan defence was finally breached with only a matter of minutes left on the clock, Williamson cutting inside, stroking the ball into the bottom corner to win the match for a deserved Dromara side.
