Vital win over Ford for Village in their search for title

ANOTHER three points on the road for Dromara in their quest for the league title - and they got another boost after the game when they found out that their closest rivals Immaculata had been beaten.

And there was another clean sheet their tenth of the season so a lot of credit must go to the keeper and the back four.

Dromara, without really dominating the first half, still created many chances and it was not until just before the interval they took the lead.

In the first couple of minutes Kerr’s header just went over the bar and Carson was upended in the box but to his disbelief the referee did not award the penalty.

Then from another Carmichael corner Kerr’s header was cleared of the line and soon after Collins was taken down by the keeper but again the referee did not point to the spot. Magennis had a god run and his effort just cleared the crossbar but in between they had one scare when a ball over the top caught out Phil Neil and keeper Armstrong and a forward nipped in but his lob just went wide of the post.

Eventually they got the break through when Drake who has been in great form since returning from injury burst forward and played in Carmichael on the right, his ball into the box was blocked but fell to Stevie Neil whose effort was also blocked by the keeper but the ball fell to McConnell eight yards out who hammered it home. It was a relief to go in at the interval a goal to the good after all the opportunities but the second half was to be a more convincing half with them totally dominating proceedings.

They missed several good opportunities when first Stevie Neil inside the box dragged his effort wide and then possibly the best chance of the game when McConnell burst down the right and his inch perfect cross fell to Collins inside the six yard box but under pressure he put his shot wide.

They got their deserved second when a through ball over the top was latched onto by Stevie Neil and he calmly lobbed the keeper.

The game was then over as a contest and they increased their lead again when Kerr headed home from another Carmichael corner which has been a common occurrence this season.

Near the end the Ford side lost their way a touch and their composure and a defender was sent off for having a dig at McConnell but it was a well contested game with plenty of banter and a vital three points at the end of the day.

With three games remaining they now need four points from their three games, but with difficult fixtures there is a lot of work still to be done.

On behalf of Dromara Football Club they would like to offer their condolences to manager Stevie Gormley and his family on the recent passing of his father.
