Villagers secure first home points of season

Seapatrick 4

Blackers Mill 1

SEAPATRICK returned to league action with their first home game of the season against County Armagh side Blackers Mill.

With only 15 minutes on the clock the Village were awarded a penalty when striker Gary McGrath appeared to be upended in the box. Debutant Shannon Dainey strode confidently forward and as he blasted towards the top corner the Mill’s keeper pulled off a great save.

This seemed to spur the County Armagh side on and they were unlucky at the other end as they saw an unchallenged header narrowly sail over the Seapatrick bar.

With three first half minutes left to play the move of the game brought about the first goal. Aaron Buchanan made a great run on the left hand side and played inside to Stephen Campbell.

Campbell played an inch perfect pass through the Blackers Mill rearguard and as Clifford Sands crossed Stuart Cinnamon tapped in at the front post.

The second half was only two minutes old when Seapatrick got their second. Stuart Cinnamon carried the ball to the edge of the box, he unleashed a drive destined for the bottom and as it took a wicked deflection wrong footed the keeper and nestled in the back of the net.

They were unlucky not to get a third a short time later. Ian McDowell released Dean Andrews on the left and as he cut in he chipped the advancing keeper only to watch the ball hit the side netting.

To Blackers Mill’s credit they battled to get themselves back into the game. A cross from the right was met by the head of an unmarked forward and as he met the ball sweetly it eluded keeper Fletcher and into the net.

The next goal would be the crucial one and what a goal it was. Seapatrick striker Gary McGrath received a throw in to feet and with his back to goal just of the touchline he swiveled, looked up and cracked an effort into the top corner.

Paul Frazer got Seapatrick's fourth. Full back Adam Kerr made his way across the halfway line with the ball, his threaded pass came to the feet of Frazer and as he ran diagonally he shot across the keeper from an acute angle and into the net.
