Village hold thechampions in draw

Dollingstown 0

Seapatrick 0

DOLLINGSTOWN are the current league champions and but for a 20 minute spell in the game there wasn't a lot between these two teams.

To go into their own backyard and come away with a point and a clean sheet is definitely great progress. Seapatrick right from the warm up were enthusiastic, vocal and had a great belief that they could come away with something from this game.

The game was battled in the area between the two 18 yard boxes with neither team able to penetrate the both resolute defences. Indeed the first effort on goal wasn't until the 28th minute. A switch of play by Dollingstown found their midfielder on the right hand side. He made a diagonal run towards the Seapatrick goal and as he unleashed a shot destined for the bottom corner, keeper Kris Fletcher pulled of a great save.

Seapatrick do play some attractive football and when they have the ball on the ground they take the game to their opponents. From a triangle of passes Stevie Greene picked up the ball in the middle of the park. He played into he feet of Damo Curley and as Curley played along the edge of the Dollingstown box Mark Watt hit a great effort which the keeper got down low to, to make a great save.

At the other end keeper Fletcher pulled of a great save to deny the Dollingstown number 8. Dollingstown were now holding onto the ball well and forcing the Village back line further and further backwards, but they held strong and were determined not to be breached.

With 20 minutes remaining Seapatrick’s confidence was growing and they realized that the space was in the wide areas as they attacked down both sides. From one attack Steve Jones raced forward going at the Dollingstown backline. He sprayed a ball to Aaron Gallagher who's cross picked out the onrushing Mark Watt, who headed just over.

The last chance of the game fell to birthday boy Chris McGrath. As a cross came in he saw the keeper of his line and with his back to goal his acrobatic effort sailed over the bar. Seapatrick’s confidence is growing with every game but they know that they need to be taking all three points.

Team: Kris Fletcher, Phil Davidson, Aaron Buchanan, Mark McCallum, John Murphy, Steve Jones, Stevie Greene, Mark Watt, Chris McGrath, Paul Fearon, Aaron Gallagher, Damo Curley, Marty Buchanan.

- Seapatrick Seconds have had a great chance of winning some silverware this season but seem to be handing the league to teams around them. With a strong team they were playing a Tandragee side who have had some decent form of late.

Other teams in the top half had dropped points of recent weeks and it was a good chance for them to go back to the top of the table. However some poor finishing, lack of fitness and sloppy defending cost them the game as they went down 3-2 to Tandragee. Clifford Sands got both of Seapatricks goals one from the penalty spot.

- Seapatrick FC are to hold a quiz night at Banbridge Town FC on Saturday March 20. It gets underway at 8pm and entry is 5.
