Under-14's move top of the league

COLERAINE Academy Under-14's moved to joint top of the Mid Ulster Youth League with an excellent 3-1 victory over Draperstown at the Crescent in Coleraine on Saturday.

The home team settled and started to play some nice football creating a couple of chances down the right flank with Christie Moore just failing to open the scoring.

The breakthrough arrived on 23 minutes though as Kyle Millar took a quick throw on the left to Barry Daly who played the ball through for Danny Henderson to chase. He beat the Draperstown keeper and slammed the ball into the empty net.

Draperstown however were soon level when a high ball into the box was headed backwards by a Coleraine player over the top of Andrew Gawne and into the net.

Coleraine's second goal finally came on 57 minutes when Draperstown failed to clear the ball from another Moore corner and Barry Daly smashed it high into the net.

Coleraine scored their third and best goal on 62 minutes again from another Christie Moore corner.

Barry Daly superbly volleyed the ball into the net at the back post.

Coleraine were now well on top and playing some lovely football all over the pitch and they nearly added a fourth goal before the final whistle but Danny Henderson's shot just cleared the crossbar.

This week Coleraine Academy U14's travel to Cookstown to play Armagh in the MUYL.

U11's

Coleraine Under-11's made a disastrous start against Limavady going 3-0 down within the first 10 minutes.

Credit to the Bannsiders though they didn't panic and remarkably they pulled level. Kori Doherty made it 3-1 with a cool finish before he set up Matthew Clarke to score. Scott Weir brough the sides level with a super finish.

Unfortunately Limavady scored right at the end of the first half to leave it 4-3 with Coleraine having played the better football.

The second half brought more disappointment for Coleraine as they had a perfectly good goal not given and a penalty appeal waved away. Kevin O’Kane had brought Coleraine back into the game but bad referee decisions, individual mistakes and missed chances cost the U11’s the game.

Man of the Match: Kori Doherty.

Team - Josh Dunn, Rhys Stirling, Paul Adams, George Little, Aaron McCook, James Richmond, Kevin O’Kane, Kori Doherty, Ross Ritchie, Matthew Clarke, Jack Forgrave, Max Beattie, Oscar Moffitt-Clarke, Ben White, Scott Weir.
