Ulster Cup finale looks like being close call

IN the Ulster Karting Club promoted Ulster Cup series, if the recent sixth round is anything to go by then the double header Turkington Windows supported finale on October 2 at Nutts Corner Circuit of this series and the Northern Irish championships is sure to be close.

In the World Formula class, to show off the versatility of the Stirling brothers after Adam won the recent U18 World Championship round, Craig took on and won comfortably showing how experience from various national championships really improves a drivers form.

From the off in finals Stirling simply held firm at the front as the chasing pack to win comfortably from Dromore’s David Lilburn and Mark Overend from Portadown. However, with Stirling not really in this championship then the series is still up for grabs especially with some of the favourites not fairing out as well as planned on the day.

Stephen Addis drove superbly last time out to finish fifth and put him well into the top ten with Gareth Hoare from Maghaberry and Dromore’s David Johnstone also having a strong day out. Gareth in particular will be keen for a good result as he is sitting in fifth overall at present with the potential to move up to third if he has a superb points score on Saturday.

Despite a poorer than expected Moira's Paul Prentice still leads but only just with Overend literally only a race place away from the lead. The result by Lilburn though sees him hold firm at the top of the Northern Ireland championships

Lilburn’s team mate Kyle Price from Lisburn however made up for things in the Mini Max class by winning by the slenderest margin of the day, four hundredths of a second. That win now also helps put Kyle very much in control of the Northern Ireland championships although Finlay is still able to scoop that series also from second.

Dromore’s Ross Graham will also be keen after finishing sixth last time out which has put him well into the top ten overall.

In the Rotax Max class, Dromara’s David Irvine and Jonathan Bell have been improving steadily all season. Irvine though is very much in the hunt for a top 10 and a good run on Saturday could see him move that way.

Racing this Saturday gets underway at 10am with a packed series of three heats. The tough finals will start around 2pm.
