U7s showing improvement in Development Centre

RATHFRILAND U7s played Newry side Midway in the IFA Games Development Centre and notched up a convincing win.

Rathfriland started brightly with the impressive Aaron Monaghan bursting through the Midway defence after four minutes to open the scoring with a neat finish and it was the same player again who doubled the advantage after some good approach play from Callum Weir and Luke Rooney.

The Newry lads could not find a way past the magnificent Weir in defence who was tackling like his life depended on it and ably supported by Jake Gracey in goal.

Luke Rooney then popped up to score the first of four in the game followed by a neat finish from Conor Colhoun who opened his account for club.

Rathfriland were then brought back down to earth before the break when Midway hit back with two goals from their striker.

The second period saw the lads gain control of the midfield through Ethan Walsh and Callum Travers who scored a goal each along with two more from hot-shot Aaron Monaghan. However, Midway fought back yet again with three late goals despite the best efforts of McGivern in goal.

The final period saw man of the match Callum Weir unlucky to strike the wood work, Monaghan take his tally for the day to seven, Colhoun complete his hat-trick and Rooney finish the game with four.
