U17s knocked out of Shield by strong DC side

Town Under 17s lost their quarter final shield match 3-0 but gave a good account of themselves against a decent Donegal Celtic.

They suffered an early blow, losing key midfielder Dylan Martin with a suspected dislocated jawbone.

Adam Maginniss then had a couple of shots well saved by the ‘keeper, but against the run of play, DC broke down the left and a cross was met by their attacker whose close range shot was too good for ‘keeper William Dunlop.

Shortly after, David Gray was brought down for a penalty but Maginniss’ spot kick was well saved by the ‘keeper and at half time there was more bad news when Banbridge lost central defender Brian Johnston to an ankle injury.

The Juniors fought hard in the second half. David Gray had a long range shot saved and Andrew Martin had a header cleared off the line.

Celtic got a second after 70 minutes and soon after they were awarded a penalty. William Dunlop made a great save but the Celtic striker scored the rebound to seal the victory.
