U17s hit high-flying Hillsborough for four

Town’s U17s continued their excellent run with this convincing 4-1 victory over second-placed Hillsborough.

Banbridge started strongly putting pressure on the Hillsborough defence and were rewarded after 15 minutes when Ryan Williamson finished from close range after a shot from Adam Maginniss had been parried by the keeper.

Declan Loy then went close with a low shot after good work from midfielder Jordan Hayes. Adam Dennison was then unlucky when his long range shot went narrowly wide of the post.

After 25 minutes, right-back Andrew Bennington went on a run down the wing and hit a great cross into the box which deflected off the head of a defender and into the goal making it 2-0.

A few minutes later Ryan Williamson fired in a right footed shot which took a deflection to go past the keeper for number three. In the second half, with the strong wind now against them, Banbridge were still in command with Jordan Hayes almost getting on the end of a great Declan Loy cross. Adam Dennison then went close when his long range shot was deflected behind for a corner-kick.

Hillsborough got one back and then put Banbridge under some real pressure but their stout defence held firm. Josh Cargin was very unlucky when his long range shot came back off the post.

Banbridge finished off with the best goal of the game. Gareth Orr played a lovely ball through to Josh Cargin who took it to the by line and cut back for Declan Loy, who drove into the net from about 12 yards out.
