U14s sweep aside Swifts as season draws to a close

COLLY Martin’s Banbridge Rangers U14s took on Markethill Swifts at Cheney Park on Saturday afternoon.

They started strongly and could have taken an early lead only for Simon McAllister being denied by the keeper when through one on one.

Rangers continued to press and took the lead on 21 minutes with a fine effort from wide on the right by Bradley Harper that sailed into the far top corner.

Rangers continued to press and following great work in midfield by captain on the day Jamie Black and Daniel McCallen, Simon McAllister was unlucky not to double the lead.

Goalkeeper Craig Robinson was having a quiet day, with in control centre backs Russell Hilland and Dean McIvenna giving great protection, and full backs Jack Savage and Jacob Poole snuffing out any threat from the flanks.

Banbridge Rangers built on their 1-0 at the start of the second half looking to close out the game as soon as possible and Alex Cochrane capped a fine performance with the second goal following a goalmouth scramble.

David Barr was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet before Matty Holloway scored a sublime third following a deft turn and finish into the far corner over the advancing keeper.

Colly’s lads have a busy run in to the season’s end and more performances like this will see them pick up some useful points.
