U14s hammered

TOWN Juniors Under-14s played host to Brookvale in the first round of the knockout cup at the Tech Grounds on Saturday morning, and although they lost the scoreline did not reflect their overall performance.

Town started the match well as the midfield battle was contested by both teams early on and the visitors forced the Juniors to do some early defending as the first few chances of the match fell to Brookvale

The Juniors defence was solid as they cleared any attacks without too much trouble.

Brookvale however kept coming at the Juniors and got themselves an opener when a rather soft shot was deflected in on 12 minutes. The locals fought hard to get back into the game but Brookvale doubled their advantage from the spot on 17 minutes and the visitors got a third just four minutes later. Just before the break Brookvale were gifted another penalty which they converted.

Town came roaring out for the second half searching for a way back into the game and they started to get the better of Brookvale as they pushed them back into their own half.

After making some tactical substitutions, the Juniors started to create chances with Caleb Schiess, Jonny Rodgers and Owen Byrne all coming close.

The Juniors finally found a breakthrough when Owen Byrne flicked the ball on for Caleb Schiess to burst onto and finish calmly for a well deserved goal to make it 4-1.

This goal gave the Juniors a lift and they created a flurry of chances but were unable to find a second goal. Brookvale defended well and on 27 minutes they killed the game off when they broke and scored number five and they added a sixth goal right at the death with a super volley.

The Juniors battled well and played some decent football right to the end. This weeks man of the match was captain Jake Laffin for a tireless and driven performance from the first minute to the last.
