U13s keep on the right track

Bann U13s 22

Carrick U13s 7

BANN'S U13 side continued their on winning ways thanks to a gritty performance against a big Carrick side.

After brushing aside Malone last week they welcomed back some familiar faces in Matthew Jamison, Corin McClusky and Michael McGaffin. This only strengthened the side further.

From the start Bann made their intentions known with the forwards taking the game to the bigger Carrick pack, continually rucking them off the ball.

A quick ball from nine to 10, the impressive pairing of Max Buller and Ben Thompson, saw the latter take the ball blind and sell a couple of dummies, making 30 meters only to be tackled just short of the line.

Carrick replied when they caught the Bann boys still discussing Ben’s run. Their speedy centre carried the ball wide and after a few missed tackles ran in with only Sammy Mount in pursuit. The try was converted.

Bann went straight back up into the opposition half and some great back row play saw the Cousins twins charge down the fly-half’s attempted kick for touch and only some super Carrick defending prevented a Bann score.

After the restart Bann were keen to spread the ball wide and after three phases of play the ball reached the wing where Josh Kinley ran into the corner for the try.

After finishing the half on a high the boys started the second half having to defend. Hard work from Josh Chambers, Adam Cromwell and William Cousins in the pack ensured Carrick weren't making much ground.

The ball was won back and Jamison’s boot took his team deep into the Carrick 22 where a defensive knock-on led to a Bann scrum. Good decision making from scrum-half Buller allowed No 8 William Cousins to pick and go from the base of the scrum and his pace and power took him through the defence to score.

The drop kick re-start saw Bann run at Carrick again and with impressive work from Cromwell and a great off-load the excellent William Cousins out-ran the opposition defence from 60 metres out. Jamison converted.

A spell of play which saw the ball change hands numerous times ended with a ruck in the Carrick 22. Quick service again from Buller saw the ball flashed quickly to the wing for Jordan Cairns to score in the corner.

This was an impressive display from the ever improving 13s. Cromwell, Baxter and Chambers were the pick of the pack and Thompson, Jamison and McGaffin starred in the backs.

Man of the match must go to the hard working William Cousins who bagged himself a brace of tries and was industrious for the whole 60 minutes.

Training continues on Wednesday nights from 7pm.
