U13s get off the mark in seven goal thriller

Banbridge Town U13s 4

Shankill U13s 3

Banbridge U13s began their Lisburn Invitational campaign with a narrow but deserved win over Belfast side Shankill Juniors.

The game began at a fast pace and Shankill struck the opening blow after five minutes when their forward was allowed to turn and shoot in the box.

Banbridge responded magnificently with three goals in quick succession from striker Aaron Thompson, each preceded by good link-up play from deep in their own half.

Shankill fought back and levelled before the interval with two quick goals of their own, the first of which was a free kick from distance which sailed high over keeper Calum Adamson.

After the interval, both sides continued to press and it was Banbridge who grabbed the spoils when Luke powered his way through the centre of the defence and slotted home.

Banbridge then held on valiantly in the face of sustained Shankill pressure, with all sections of the relatively new-look team contributing well to the victory.
