Two vital points for Tullylish Premier Reserves

TULLYLISH Premier Reserves travelled to Ballymartin on Friday evening and took two valuable League points off the seasiders through sheer grit and dogged determination.

Chris McGovern gave the home side plenty to think about when he converted a neat forward ball from Seamus O'Hare to notch up the first point.

A lofty midfield kick out was nailed by John McKivergan who once again found McGovern lurking on the edge of the square and he rattled the back of the net with a forceful shot.

Tullylish full back line, Sean McDermott and Gavin McEvoy under the experienced guidance of Michael Feeney deprived Ballymartin attacks on goal and the half back line of Andy Rooney, John McKivergan and Emmett Scullion never let the home half forwards feel comfortable on the ball. Ballymartin had to take their scores from way outfield and secured three points by half time.

Tullylish once again took the initiative in the second half with half forward Ryan McAnearney running into space to secure play and launch one attack after another on the home goals.

Brian Thompson scored the first point of the second half and Justy McCartan was rewarded for his efforts with another point in close succession.

Tullylish goalkeeper Martin Savage was called on to face an on the spot kick and denied the seasiders with a flying save to knock the ball wide and out of danger.

Kevin McKivergan consistently won breaking balls in the middle of the park and set up the next point for Chris McGovern.

Ryan McAnearney also got his name on the score sheet to secure the insurance for his side at 1-5 to 0-4.

Ballymartin were given a consolation penalty kick with seconds to go much to the consternation of Marty Savage but Tullylish ran out the winners and should now be safe in the League.

Manager Sean Fegan commended the team work and the great playing spirit and on behalf of the squad wished Ryan McAnearney the best of luck in his forthcoming sabbatical year in America.
