Tullylish's hard work and team effort beats Kilclief

TULLYLISH manager Keith Farrell has attributed the Division Two win against Kilclief to sheer hard work combined with an all round team effort.

Farrell commended the defence on setting up the play and the forwards for finishing it off with a total of seventeen scores.

The first score of the game started with a quick delivery pass from midfielder Gareth Johnston. Kevin McCartan picked up and set John McAreavey up for a goal chance. The cross bar denied the first attempt but when the ball ricocheted back into McAreavey’s hands, he made sure of the second chance.

Tullylish held onto scoring momentum, clocking up eight consecutive points before Kilclief could get a reply. Pete Quinn took two points, John McAreavey took four, while Gareth Johnston and Gary Chambers got one each.

Kilclief came back into the game with three points towards the end of the first half but Tullylish were in the driver’s seat leading 1-9 to four points.

Changes to Tullylish in the second half were Pete Convery, Chris McGovern, Niall Donnelly and Justin McCartan.

Kilclief took two points but these were quickly overhauled when Gary Chambers found the net with an unstoppable low hard shot that gave the goal keeper no chance.

Pete Quinn cemented this with a signature point from a strong burst through the middle of the field.

John McAreavey sealed the win taking the next four scores, two free kicks, one point and a final combination of passes from Shannon Drainey then Gareth Johnston which set McAreavey up for his second attack on the nets.

Conor McManus initiated the final play of the game finding Davy Corbett, then James McDermott who set Pete Quinn up for the last point of the game giving Tullylish the win by 3-14 to 0-11.
