Toon edged out by Monaghan

This game was a crucial game and it took a lot of hard work and effort for the boys to get this far.

To get to this point the boys won their league, with sides like Ards, Ballyclare, Carrick and Coleraine in it. The next stage was Ulster wide when they had to travel to Clogher Valley to draw 3-3 with another strong side.

Ballymoney were crowned victors under Ulster Branch ruling and despite understanding the disappointment of the Clogher boys were put into the next round to face Monaghan in the next stage of the competition.

Monaghan are a youth side which unlike Ballymoney, regularly featured at this stage in the competition.

The game was hugely competitive and Ballymoney should be extremely proud of their performance.

The boys lost the game 13-12.

Big performances from Jordan Munnis and Leon Beattie in the forwards kept Ballymoney on the front foot for most of the game. Despite being the smaller pack the front row also held up well.

Ballymoney’s defence in the back-line was also top notch, some big tackles from little man Mark McAllister at 10 kept the Ballymoney line safe for most of the day.

It was a game where Ballymoney dominated possession but were unable to do anything with it.

Coach Dave Calvin said: “I’m extremely proud of the boys today as well as being extremely gutted for them, all is not lost though cause we are still looking to have a good run in the Cup.”
