Tight match for Thirds

DROMORE Thirds hosted their first home match of the season against Lisnagarvey Thirds.

The match kicked off at 4pm in the wind and rain. These two teams had been promoted and knew it would be a hard work this season.

From the off Lisnagarvey showed they were up for the match, making the Dromore defence work hard with Joanna Wilkinson clearing out some brilliant balls.

Dromore were hitting back hard with lovely runs from Julie Anderson and Katie Pepper on the Left wing, running in and getting shots on target but Lisnagarvey's goalkeeper, standing strong, kept them a bay.

Halfway though the first half Lisnagarvey made a run and sneaked a goal in, but Dromore weren't disheartened. They showed why they got promoted with determination and skill.

Judith Ervine made a run with Julie Anderson supporting her; Julie received the ball and went for a shot and Katie Pepper got the rebound ball to score just before end of the first half.

In the second half both teams were up for the match with Beth Maguire holding her player out of the play at left back.

Dromore recovered two penalties and both were on target but the Lisnagarvey goalkeeper again showed her strength.

Dromore continued to attack but nothing coming out of it. Lisnagarvey had a final run and got some shots on target but Lois Cobb, new to Dromore Ladies' senior club this year, showed great determination skills and saved some excellent shots.

A penalty corner was given against Dromore but they knew what they had to do with Michelle Herron running out of the corners with Beth Maguire following behind with Dromore keeping the ball out.

However they conceded a goal near the end of the second half. Dromore fought on with a few more attempts at goal but sadly time had ran out.

Dromore Thirds' next match is away to North Down, time to be confirmed.
