Tight conclusion to U11s game

DROMORE suffered their biggest defeat at home against Sunnyside the last time they met.

This, however, was to be an exciting match end to end, with a much closer finish.

Dromore shuffled their starting line with boys away for transfer and sickness. In came Ben Stevenson and Josh Best.

The start of the game was more like a game of chess, with both defences ruling and stamping out any attacks. Ben played centre back, with Morgan right back and Matthew Briggs on the left. Matthew Magill was given the captains arm band at the start of the match for the month of December. He played a delightful ball through to Adam; however, his cross was not finished off.

Philip had battled hard in midfield with Karl and Joel and he played a good ball through to Magill, who slipped the ball through to Karl who beat the keeper at the near post. Dromore had the lead just before the half ended.

The second half was much more open and Sunnyside hit the post, with Josh Jennings beaten. Josh played a really good second half and kept Dromore in the game with good handling and shot blocking, with Morgan clearing his lines well and Joel who dropped into defence making last ditch defending skills, giving his all.

It was going to take a great goal to beat Josh and it came from a shot from distance that found the top right hand corner. Then after a period of intense pressure Sunnyside scored from a corner.

Dromore did not give up and Josh Best delivered some great crosses into the box. It was the Adam who drifted off the right wing to deliver a perfectly weighted pass for Karl to run onto. With the keeper not knowing to come or stay and Karl not sure if the ball would beat him, the attacker put on extra pace and slotted the ball past the keeper, to put the scores even once more.

Sunnyside scored the winner from another corner, with Dromore not clearing their lines. They did not give up and with two minutes Alan had to chances to equalise. The keeper saved the first and the second lobbed over the bar.

Dromore played really well and now have two friendly 11-a-side games at Dromore to practice for the cup game. Next week Rathfriland visit the U11s with a 10.30am kick off.
