There’s a treat in store for local karting fans

LOCAL kart racing fans and drivers are in for a big weekend of Superkart action in the sport when the UK Cup and British championship racing returns to Bishopscourt circuit near Downpatrick on Saturday June 2.

Drivers from across the UK will bring their160mph capable machines to the circuit and judging by some of the recent activity at Nutts Corner and Kirkistown the locals have been getting in plenty of fast race practice.

That meeting will also include a round of the Northern Ireland championships for all classes in the sport and with this Saturday also featuring a round of the Ulster Karting Club promoted Ulster Championship for the non gearbox classes then this weekend will also be an indicator of how things will go at Bishopscourt the following Saturday.

In the 160mph capable 250cc Superkart class Gilford driver, Scott Greenaway, took an excellent second last time out to make it one of his best results of the season. Waringstown’s Richard Dewart should have had a better final race but unfortunately a technical problem forced his retirement. No doubt Dewart will be back on form for Bishopscourt.

In the Tommy Fegan Motors supported Pro kart class, Nigel Stewart however will only be thinking about winning after a very close win last time out. As a result, Stewart is definitely in the hunt for another championship win.

Racing on each of the next two Saturdays gets underway with the first of three heats starting at 10am with the finals in mid afternoon. Full details can also be obtained at the newly formatted NIKA web site www.nikarting.com or www.ulsterkartingclub.com.
