Ten goal thriller at Community Centre

Dromore Amateurs U10s 5

Loughall U10s 5

DROMORE U10s hosted Loughall U10s on Saturday in a friendly at Dromore Community Centre.

Again preparations for the game were not ideal due to a few players being sick, this resulted in the young Dromore side starting the match with only 10 players.

The home side didn’t let this fact hinder them as from the first whistle they went on the attack and could have opened the scoring after some fine passing through the midfield set up J Corbett for a chance.

As the home side were coming to terms with being a man down it was Loughall that scored first after an attack down the centre of the Dromore defence wasn’t cleared allowing the forward to score past R Cobb in the Dromore goal.

M Johnston arrived to bolster the numbers up to 11 for the home side mid-way through the first half. The equal numbers seemed to have a negative effect on the home side as Loughall rattled in another three goals to Dromore's one.

The kids can take a lot of heart in how they responded as they all rolled up their sleeves and took the game by the scruff of the neck. Within 15 minutes of the second half Dromore had brought the game level with goals from R Gallagher, N Hamilton, M Crossey and J Corbett.

The pick of the bunch was scored by M Crossey, after dribbling around two defenders he unleashed an almighty thunderbolt that found the top corner giving the Loughall keeper no chance off saving it.

With the final whistle about to blow it was Dromore that scored again to make the score 5-4 and the Dromore players all thought they had won the game. The jubilation was short lived as Loughall scored a dramatic equaliser in the dying seconds.

A very strong show of character from the U10s who never let their heads drop and battled throughout the second half to get something from the game. This strength of character was evident from the midfield boss and star man of the day R Gallagher who took it upon himself to lead the comeback with his immense work rate for the team, strong tackling and off course two fine goals scored.

After the final whistle both teams had a penalty shoot-out to give the kids a go at the experience. All the kids had a go and off course there were some good penalties taken and the odd bad one.
