Council Sports Development Officer, Gillian Dewart, explains why parents with young children should join a Swim-a-Song course. She said: “Endorsed by the Amateur Swimming Association, Swim-a-Song facilitates young children’s physical and educational development because it incorporates water safety, free movement, structured play and exercise to music.

"Classes enable infants to get used to water from an early age, which in turn helps build confidence and keep them safe.”

Joan Putt who will supervise the Swim-a-Song classes added, “Getting children used to water at a young age is advisable as they are easier to teach than older children.

"Moreover, parents tend to be quite nervous when introducing their child to water and the child usually picks up on this – making it a daunting experience for both child and parent. Swim-a-Song counteracts all this and makes learning to swim an enjoyable experience. Swim-a-Song rates very highly among past participants.”
