Surprises sprung in week 16

HAD anyone suggested at the start of February that there would be four teams in the hunt for the title that statement could well have been ridiculed!

But it has happened and starting with the Anglers there were a few surprising results this week.

Anglers 2 Imperial 6: After taking a two point lead last time out, the Anglers saw their season begin to crumble around them in the opening three frames against an Imperial side who’s form has been second to none in recent matches.

J Ferris, S McMinn and R Malcolmson saw the away side take a 3-0 lead.

Captain BJ thought he could have spurred his side on with victory in the next frame but it wasn’t to be.

M Jameson and R Kerr done the damage for the imperial without worrying about the doubles.

The Anglers remain on 22 points.

F&L 1 Market B 7: Spurred on by their victory in the division one cup final the night before the market went on the rampage and give the first and last a hiding in their own backyard.

P McStraw saw that the market got of go the perfect start but C Parrott equalised in typical fashion.

It was then that the market decided to put their foot down. D Russell, G Graham, A Barr and P Beggs saw that the away side could relax in the doubles knowing the result was already academic.

The Market move with a point of the leaders - 21 points.

O’Reillys 1 Mulholland’s B 7: It was not a good night to be playing at home anywhere in the league as you can see the away sides dominated procedures.

Having gone 1-0 down I doubt Mulholland’s expected such an emphatic win.

Ruby put O’Reilly’s 1-0 to the good, but it went seriously downhill from there

A Currie, S Wilson, M Jardine, P Winters and M McCormack all achieved victory to ensure that a third result on the night did not need the doubles to decide who won.

Mulholland’s are now two points behind the leaders.

Bus Bar 5 Railway 3: No further information.

Bridge B v Gilford Inn: Match postponed until further notice.
