Sun shines for Vintage Rally

Over 140 vehicles were on display, including tractors, cars, motorbikes, harvesters, war time army trucks and the steam engines of Tom Herron and Mickey Brannigan.

While the field conditions did not suit the steam engines they made a wonderful spectacle when they left the rally to proceed up the hill to Tom's yard with Mickey arriving first having passed Tom on the hill.

Among the other new events were a zip wire and the Scouts set up an activity centre.

The tractor pulling, in it's first year, was a big success. Such was the level of interest and requests for future participation that it is proposed to have a stand alone tractor pulling event possibly around Christmas - an announcement will follow later.

Some modifications to the sledge will be carried out prior to this. Origionally this event was for Older Tractors but some more modern machinery also took part with Warren McConnell in his Massey Ferguson being the star of the show.

Helen Singer, who co-ordinated the schools colouring competition, had over 400 entries from the four participating schools, which were Drumadonnell, St. Mary's Dehoment, Iveagh and St. Mary's Rathfriland. A big thanks to all.

Those prizes not collected at the field will be distributed this week. The rector who judged the entries remarked that the high standard of the entries made judging very difficult.
