Summer season gets underway at Rathfriland

BRIGHT nights and longer evenings heralded the start of the 2013 summer season of shooting, at Rathfriland Clay Pigeon Club.

Bright but breezy conditions made for a tricky, yet the opportunity was there to be seized, as the first Thursday night of summer shooting got under way.

Mid-week action proved a hit among the shooters, with a total of 13 lines shot over the night; four shooters reaching the final having shot the 20/60 score. Ronald Sloan, in particular hit 20/60 on three occasions before the final, in which he hit another perfect score, some fantastic shooting from the Mourne man.

He was to be joined in the final by Thursday night regular Geoff Dale and Rathfriland’s Hugh Ervine, and George Gracey. The red hot form of Ronald Sloan was no match for the rest though; Sloan flawlessly blasted his way through another twenty to take away first place, no doubt setting the tone for shooters at Rathfriland all summer.

Final places were as follows, 1st, Ronald Sloan; 2nd= Hugh Ervine & George Gracey; 4th, Geoff Dale

Twenty-bird DTL action continues next Thursday, 9 May, and continues each Thursday night throughout the summer. Shooting commences around 6pm, and all shooters are welcome.
