Success for Cowdy teams in semis

After the first leg of the Senior Cowdy Banbridge led Rossmore by 17-15 and had all the hard work done away from home.

SENIOR COWDY.

Jonathan Burns beat Kieran Lavery by 6/5 (4 points).

Luke Woods lost to Dermot McCrystal 2 and 1 (0).

Paul Magennis halved with Philip Cassidy (2).

Colin Wilton beat Daniel McCrossan 4 and 3. (4).

Neil Madeley halved with Conor Friel. (2).

Rory Madeley lost to Sean Moyne 2 and 1. (1).

Kieran Magennis halved with Sylvestor Quinn McMahon. (2).

Ross McCandless lost to Paddy Smyth 3 and 2. (0).

It’s hard to believe but this meant a 15-17 loss at home and the two teams were tied 32-32.

Last man out Ross McCandless had to play tie holes against the Rossmore team captain Paddy Smyth. Paddy hit a career best drive down the first, Ross then hit the trees on the right.

Ross played a good recovery, missing the green on the right hand side. Paddy hit the green and it’s advantage Rossmore.

A fantastic chip and run up the bank by Ross left him inches from the hole. Paddy took three putts and now Banbridge are in the final of the Senior Cowdy Cup 2010. Unbelieveable to say the least!

JUNIOR COWDY - The Junior Cowdy team played Mannan Castle at home and they won three and a half points out of a possible four. Surely they must now go through.

Like the Senior Cowdy team they also had a scare before closing out victory.

Shane Crossan and Adrian Barry were beaten 4/2, Jonathan Kerr and Carson Clegg were beaten 5/4 and Dominic Quinn and James Bryson were one down playing the last. It was looking bad for Banbridge.

However, Barrie McCoy and Gerry Blevins were fighting like demons in their game. With some tremendous putting from Gerry Blevins the Banbridge pair got themselves to one up with one to play.

This meant at least a half match for Gerry and Barrie and with the 12 hole advantage from the home leg Mannan Castle could not win.

Banbridge are in the final of the Junior Cowdy cup. A special mention should go to the inspirational replacement team captain, John McDowell. He could be retained in post for the final by popular demand.
