STUART FACES UPHILL BATTLE

KINALLEN Rally Champion Stuart Biggerstaff will take to the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum roads this Diamond Jubilee weekend to contest the Cultra Hillclimb, organised by the Thoroughbred Sports Car Club.

Twenty four-year-old Stuart will be driving the Biggerstaff family’s MG Metro 6R4, the first ever to be built, at the event which takes place on Saturday 2 June. The car embraces the two themes that are celebrated at this year’s Cultra Hillclimb; 4WD and the 50th anniversary of MGB.

The Biggerstaff family are no strangers to success in the motorsports world with Denis, Stuart’s father winning NI Hillclimb and Sprint Championships and breaking records for the Spelga Hillclimb in the Mournes, and going on to win two NI Rally Championships with the car.

TSCC President William Heaney, Cultra Hillclimb Event Coordinator said; “The Metro 6R4 is the perfect addition to the 2012 Cultra Hillcimb because it encompasses both our 2012 themes of 4WD and an MG anniversary like no other car could.”

Mark Kennedy, Acting Road Transport Curator at the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum added; “Cultra Hillclimb 2012 is shaping up to be even better than we expected with British, Irish and NI Championship winning drivers and cars signing up to participate. The event on 2 June at the museum will be a fantastic opportunity for all motoring enthusiasts to see some of the country’s rarest and special cars together in one place.”

Other cars to compete on the day include the Ferguson P99 racing car - the only 4WD car to ever win a Formula 1 race (Oulton Park, 1961), which will be driven by Stuart Rolt, and the museum’s own 4WD McCandless race car will also take part in the demonstration run.
