Steve lands the big one

ISLANDDERRY’S trout anglers held their annual competition at Islandderry Fishery, Dromore on Saturday.

Although it was very bright sunshine anglers where still managing to catch some quality trout. Donaghacloney angler Steve Goodbarn set the standard high, catching his winning three fish bag early on and then going on to release alot of trout. Steve was fishing black buzzers and dawl bacs to get his winning three fish bag of 13lb8.

Second place went to Liam Brunty, Belfast with three fish for 9lb9 while James Herdman, Blackskull took third with a bag weight of 7lb10.

Young Richard Dickson, Dromore won the junior fly fishing competition on the Hollow Springs lake with eight fish returned.

Both lakes are fishing well at the minute with good numbers of catches being recorded. Paul, Stuart and Winston Sinnamon, Blackskull released over 70 trout between them on a olive dancer, Robert Armstrong, Armagh released 29 on a black and red buzzer and John Reid, Lisburn released nine trout in a couple of hours on wets.

The next competition is the McFadden Memorial Trophy on Saturday September 8 with a fly fishing competition on the main lake and a bait fishing competition on the Hollow Springs lake supporting the Heart, Chest and Stroke Charity. For more information or to book contact the fishery on 07859074424.
