Stephen’s fact finding mission

BANBRIDGE Town Juniors Youth Development Officer Stephen Thompson recently returned from a fact finding mission to Premier League giants Fulham FC.

The Banbridge man was given an invaluable insight and a behind the scenes look at how their youth development structures operate - and how they prepare and train young soccer players for the future.

Stephen said: “Fulham have adapted the FA future plans for youth football and they don’t play 11-a-side matches until they reach Under-14 level.

“The London club focuses on technical ability from the ages of 6 to12, and they expect players to have their first touch perfected by that age.”

He added: “It’s very much a family club and I spent time watching several coaching sessions and matches and then I was invited to take a tour of Craven Cottage. I was really impressed with the whole set up.

“I hope to pass on all the information and underage development stratagies I recieved to the players, coaches and managers at our club - Banbridge Town Juniors.”
