Stalemate in first game after break

Bann Ladies Seconds 0

Omagh Seconds 0

BANBRIDGE Ladies Seconds played their first match back after the extended Christmas break on Saturday at Havelock against Omagh Seconds.

Omagh had beaten Bann 3-0 earlier in the season after a poor performance by the local side so Bann were out to prove themselves against this tough opposition.

Banbridge started the game well, playing some lovely hockey in all areas of the pitch and threatening the Omagh defence. The midfield of Aileen Lawson, Sarah Anderson and Rosie Waddell battled hard with the opposition, passing some good balls through to the forward line of Lynda McKinley, Ashleigh Mitchell and Anna Moore who were creating problems for the Omagh girls.

At the other end of the pitch Julie Craig, Jo-Anne Lyttle, Jade Kennedy and Diane McMillen, who was making her debut for the club, were solid in defence making some timely clearances.

Banbridge had opportunities in the first half and were unlucky not to convert from penalty corners but good defending from Omagh prevented any score.

The second half was much the same as the first, with both teams battling for possession and pressure at both ends of the pitch.

The extended Christmas break was beginning to show as both teams lacked the pace of the first half. Diane McMillen was solid in defence taking control of the back and blocking the Omagh attack. Jade Kennedy was also in top form all afternoon at left back and made some strong tackles at crucial times to keep Omagh at bay.

At the other end of the pitch Banbridge fought hard and kept the pressure on Omagh with Jemma Jackson and Rosie Waddell making some good runs down the right and Lynda McKinley and Ashleigh Mitchell fighting for everything in the circle.

The game ended with no score which was a fair result after a strong performance from both sides. Thanks to Sheree Totton for umpiring the game.
