Springwell Running Club, which now boasts over 400 members in co-operation with the Sports Department at the University have organised a full race program, with races for all age groups, from Primary age to Veteran.

The club are pleased to have two local businesses sponsoring the event Yesss Electrical and A-Spec Tyre Services, which will make for a very nice prize fund in the two main races. The added bonus for the Club is that Athletics NI have given them the honour of kicking off the eight race XC series this year, after third place overall last year in both the Ladies and Men’s series.

Racing will be over a spectator friendly one mile loop on the tough University course and starts at 11.00am with the half mile Primary Boys/Girls race, followed by U13 (1 mile), U15 (2 mile), U17 (3 mile). The final two races will start with the combined Open/Veteran Ladies (3 mile) at 12.50pm and the Open/Veteran Men’s (5 mile) at 13.30pm

Springwell hope to have a full team in all races and urge all local Schools to make the most of this local race to get their teams up and running early this XC season. All junior races are £3 and the senior races are £5 and you pre-enter or enter on the day at the UUC Pavilion from 10.00am.

Race organiser Alistair Bratten hopes this will be an annual race which will grow and attract runners from all over the province, as the UUC course is well respected and has in the past hosted all levels of XC racing form Irish Schools to the Ulster Senior Championships.

Further information is on the Club’s web-site www.springwellrunners.com or on their Facebook page.
