Slatter's century is the only highlight

Any lingering hopes of going straight back were finally ended in Saturday’s seven wicket defeat at Chesham despite Curtly Slatter completing a century.

Having elected to bat, Tew captain Harry Smith was soon caught and bowled by Ashley Turney but Robbie Catling and Slatter put on 58 runs for the second wicket. Catling was trapped lbw by Nouman Aslam but Slatter and Joe White put on 91 runs for the third wicket.

White was caught by Robin Pritchard off Samiullah Sajid for 42 runs off 89 balls. Tom Price joined Slatter in the middle and made a useful knock of 40 before he was caught by Aslam off Sajid. Slatter went on to complete his century before he was bowled by Aslam for 107 runs off only 118 balls which included 14 boundaries.

The visitors posted a competitive 231-5 off their 50 overs.

In reply, Tew made the early breakthrough when Matthew Rance was bowled by Lawrence Brock but Robin Pritchard and Alex Morgan put on 83 runs for the second wicket. Pritchard was bowled by White for a quick-fire 48 runs off 58 balls which included seven boundaries and a six.

But, with wickets in hand, Morgan and Matthew Warner saw Chesham home in the 47th over. Morgan remained unbeaten on 88 runs off 137 which included nine boundaries while Warner scored an unbeaten 62 off just 57 bals, which included six boundaries and two sixes.
