Six for juniors

THE Dunbarton juniors wanted to start their league campaign with a victory and that was exactly what they did in a game that they never looked like losing. Yet their Jordanstown opponents did not make it easy for the hosts and could easily have come away with two points. By the close a hard earned six points was achieved.

Rink 1: K Kelly, L Magennis, N Wilson, J Kelly up 27-15 - James’ four won this tussle in the middle part of the game. There was little to separate the two rinks early on as the hosts led 6-5 after 7 ends but eight ends later and they were firmly in the driving seat, having scored 14 shots to their opponents 4. The final quarter saw the locals coast to victory by 12 shots.

Rink 2: J Gray, D Dennison, M Adamson, R Gough down 17-26 - The first third of this game was tight as Robbie’s four edged ahead 9-8 after seven ends. However, unlike their colleagues on rink one, the Dunbarton rink lost their point over the middle of the game as they scored just one shot, whilst conceding twelve from ends 8-15. Trailing by ten with six ends to go proved too much of a hurdle and the home four had to settle for a nine shot defeat.

Rink 3: G Magennis, P Moore, N Cunningham, F Larkin up 24-15 - This rink skipped by Fergie Larkin was the home four that got off to a flyer and opened up a handsome 12-1 lead after the first third. During the middle of the game, the visitors did fight back and narrow the deficit only for the Gilford four to finish strongly to win by 9 shots.

Rink 4: A Magennis, R McElroy, F Doyle, C Dennison up 19-18 - Skip Clifford and his front three started badly and trailed 5-10 after seven ends but by the two thirds mark they managed to level the scores at 14-14. The final few ends were cagey as the locals moved ahead and were able to concede a single on the last end to gain a narrow but very important one shot win.

The Dunbarton B team travel to Belmont this Saturday and will be hoping to continue their good form.
