Shorter course suits Lee Willdridge

The Coburn Cup, scheduled for last Saturday, got started on time. Everything was fine up to around 11.30am and then some of the greens became flooded.

The competition was suspended and then cancelled.

The weather improved dramatically later in the evening and a 14 holes sweep was hastily organised.

Lee Willdridge (20) won with 37 points. The highlights of his round were birdies at the 2nd and 4th holes.

John Hanna (14) was second with 36 points. John was only 3 over par for the 14 holes. That was impressive.

Dominic Quinn (21) was third with 31 points. He loves the 14 holes course as he plays it most Saturdays.

Gareth Magee (6) was fourth with 31 points. Is there a more consistent player in the club? I doubt it.

Let’s hope we get back to normality next Saturday.

Visitors to the fore in the Open Stableford

Visitors featured prominently in the prizewinners list from last Thursday’s Open Stableford.

Stephen McCleary (20) was the winner with 40 points.

Richard Spence (10) was third with 39 points.

Sandwiched in between these two visitors was our own star player, Roy Sipson (10).

He was second with 39 points.

Kenny Stevenson (3), who celebrated a big birthday last Saturday, won the best gross

Bill McCandless and John J. Lennon split the “2’s” pot between themselves.
