Seconds win in Dundrum by 111 runs

MILLPARK Seconds took to the field for the first time this season in Dundrum on Saturday for their Minor Cup first round tie.

The Millpark team was made up of a good mix of young and more experienced players. Old hands such as Ian McCart, Vicky Willis, Stevie McCart and James Wright all played their part in an excellent performance. Wright and Willis both scored valuable runs quickly while Ian McCart led the team with all the craft and guile that would expected of him.

They were however outshone by two of the younger members of the team. As the Tullylish men batted first, their excellent total of 170-9 was built around a fantastic knock of 58 from young Andy Chambers, an innings which included 10 fours. To hit 170 in 35 overs was tremendous, especially considering this was the Seconds’ first outing of the season.

Millpark’s bowlers immediately set about their task. They reduced Dundrum to 5-4 after four overs. The game was effectively already over as a contest. James Wright and Ryan McCart did the early damage taking two of these early wickets each. Wright went on to finish with four wickets.

Robyn Sinton then put in the second of the outstanding performances of the match, taking an impressive three wickets for just seven runs as the Dundrum innings finished on just 59 all out. A satisfying and crushing victory margin of 111 runs.

Mention must also go to young Harry Lockhart who would have had two well deserved wickets but for two dropped catches. This was an excellent start to the season for the Second XI. If the team can keep this blend of experience and youth, a successful and enjoyable summer surely beckons.
