Seconds secure narrow victory

The recent run of wins by Dromore meant that they were aiming for a win to move them into the top slot.

The match started off well with the majority of play going Dromore’s way, however there was a notable change to the Rainey team since the last encounter.

Dromore scrummed well against a heavier Rainey pack, with the front row working well with the return of Captain Aaron Steenson after injury.

Kyle Copeland had an excellent match controlling the ball at the base of the scrum and putting in some crunching tackles.

Rainey ran hard at Dromore however with good defending, they kept them off the try line with Brian McFadden making a try saving tackle.

Ryan Kerr’s hard work in the line outs disrupted Rainey creating turn over ball.

Dromore fought hard right on half time with good passing from Philly Lunn and Scott Brown allowing Andy Graham to break through Rainey’s defence scoring the only Dromore try.

Philly Lunn converted leaving the score at 7-0 at half time. The second half started well for Dromore with some fine play in Rainey’s half, however Rainey put the pressure on, and with some 20 minutes remaining, they camped in Dromore’s half, and this resulted with a try. Rainey failed to convert leaving the score 7-5.

Pressure continued throughout the second half, however Dromore fought back missing opportunities to score due to handling errors. Rainey missed three easy penalties to the relief of Captain Aaron Steenson to give Dromore a hard fought win.
