Seconds hit NICS for six

BANBRIDGE Seconds started 2013 with a convincing win over Civil Service and maintained top spot of Junior League One.

Bann were without top goal scorer Ross McCandless and creative midfielder Diarmid Reay but had a full complement of school boys.

The locals dominated from the start with Woods and Bell terrorising the civil service defence.

Bann opened their scoring from a short corner, after the first corner was blocked illegally by a Civil Service defender, Anderson dispatched the second corner low past the Civil Service keeper.

McKee and Reid were linking up well in the centre of midfield and maintaining a high level of possession.

Civil Service managed to mount several counter attacks but the defence marshalled by the reliable Burn managed to thwart the attacks.

It was Burns who found Woods with a trademark long ball which lead to Bann’s second. Woods collected the pass just inside the Civil Service half and after easily eliminating the last civil service defender found himself one on one with the Civil Service keeper.

After taking the keeper wide he doubled back on his front stick and fired the ball into the open goal.

Bann started the second half as they had finished the first and it wasn’t long before they extended their lead. Good work down the left hand side by McCracken found Woods free in the circle and his ball across the circle was picked up and dispatched by Bell.

Civil Service were struggling to deal with the constant pressure from Bann and after conceding another short corner Anderson got his second with another low drag flick.

McCracken added to goal tally when he eliminated two Civil Service defenders before lifting the ball over the onrushing Civil Service keeper.

Bann were now in full flow and Malcolmson found himself unmarked at the top of the circle and fired the ball low into the bottom corner for the sixth goal.

They could have increased their lead further but for some good keeping from the Civil Service keeper and poor finishing on Bann’s part.

Bann will be satisfied with a solid first win of 2013 and now look forward to a tough encounter against Annadale Seconds at home next Saturday.
