Seconds end season with a defeat

This would be a tough match as the previous two matches had seen both teams win one game each.

Bann started strong with excellent defensive work from GD Christine Cartmill and GK Ellen Acheson winning numerous interceptions in Bann’s defensive circle.

Accurate shooting from GA Lisa Doherty and GS Mona Lewis helped Bann edge into the lead at quarter time by one goal, with the score 9-8.

In the second quarter Bann continued strong with good attacking play in the centre third by C Kate Farson and WA Mary Weir. The defensive trio also worked tirelessly to limit Clann Eireann’s chances in their shooting circle. Great shooting from Clann Eireann meant Bann now trailed by two goals at end of the quarter.

At half time Bann made some changes with Ingrid Orr replacing Elaine Henry in WD, June Cochrane coming in for Lisa Docherty in GA, Lisa Doherty taking over for Mary Weir in WA, Mary replacing Kate Farson in C and Lauren Brown filling in for Mona Lewis in GS. The defence stayed unchanged as both defenders made full advantage of their height making it difficult for Clann Eireann’s shooters.

However Clann Eireann were strong and efficient in moving the ball up the court to their shooting circle and taking advantage of Bann’s mistakes.

Bann started the last quarter knowing they had a lot of work to do to pull back the score. They continued to play hard both defending and attacking with some great plays throughout the court. Super play and shooting from GA June Cochrane narrowed the score difference but Clann Eireann took the final whistle by four goals.
