Season ends on a high for Amateurs

Donegal Celtic Ladies 2

Dromore Amateurs Ladies 6

WHAT a difference a year has made for Dromore Ladies.

This time last year they played DC in their final game of the season. Lose and they were relegated, win and they were safe. As fate would have it they won 3-1 and, as they say, the rest is history.

This time around they had third place wrapped up before the match began but over the season DC were a thorn in their side and they had a point to prove.

From the off Dromore pressured DC and after some great build up play Emma McClements hit narrowly wide.

As pressure continued a corner swung in by Amy-Louise Graham was deflected in by the shoulder of Jill Bruce. Within a few minutes Nikki Clements had a number of efforts well saved by the DC keeper.

An inspired Dani Creaney, who has stepped into nets after an injury to regular keeper Laura Magowan, was in spectacular form. First she saved a long range effort, then a one on one but the best was yet to come. After a handball up stepped the DC striker only for Dani to deny her not once but twice.

Almost straight after Fiona played an excellent ball through to Kerry to hit her 18th of the season and secure top goal scorer for the championship.

Again Dani was at her best with another one on one save, straight after she had saved well at full stretch. From the resulting corner DC scored after a mix-up in defence.

Straight from the restart Dromore pressured and a long range effort by Lauren looped over the keeper and in to leave them 3-1 up at half time.

The best goal of the match was to come. As Kerry picked the ball up on the edge of the area her shot came off the post and bounced out to the left of the area. She chased it down and won it from the defender, stepped inside two players, then another two in the box before placing the ball into the bottom corner.

As they continued to pressure they were exposed at the back but for yet again Dani to deny DC from a one on one but she took a kick to the face for her troubles and as she was on the ground Dee cleared off the line.

From the edge of the area Amy-Louise continued her rich vein of goalscoring against DC to place a well struck shot into the bottom corner and two minutes later Kerry out jumped everyone else to complete her hat trick from a corner.

A consolation goal for DC was scored in the 70th minute with a long range effort after Dani Creaney had moved outfield.

A superb finish to the season by the Amateurs, finishing 10 points clear of DC in fourth and with a few new additions for next year a title push is a real possibility.
