This prestigious half marathon attracts approximately 54,000 runners per year and the atmosphere is electric! It’s the perfect excuse to combine both a personal challenge and a city break in the same weekend.

The half marathon course takes in many of the sights of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Gateshead, starting in the City Centre and finishing by the sea, making it a really interesting route, with a fantastic crowd support mechanism. There is no time limit so you can run, jog or walk the course.

Action Cancer Fundraising Events Officer Gillian Thomson said that the Great North Run presents a fantastic opportunity for both Action Cancer and those running: “Running any half marathon is a challenge in itself, but the experience of taking part in one of the running calendar’s favourite events, such as the Great North Run, is something that can never be matched. Whether you want a new challenge or simply love running sign up to take part and raise money for Action Cancer. Run for life in this year’s Great North Run”.

Action Cancer relies heavily on donations from the public and business communities in Northern Ireland to provide a range of vital, life-saving services including a breast screening service for women aged 40-49 and 70+, men’s MOT health check, health promotion, research, counselling and complementary therapies. Every year we need to raise £3.2 million to keep our services going.
