Scarva latest to fall at the feet of Rovers

RUNAWAY Division Two league leaders Armagh Rovers are on course to complete the league season without dropping a single point.

Last Tuesday night at Scarva Park, Scarva Rangers became the latest in a long list of teams who tried and failed to stop Rovers in their tracks.

The village side, playing their final fixture of the 2011/12 season, made the visitors work as hard for their three points as any side they have encountered in the course of their irresistible march towards league promotion and title glory.

Rovers are equipped with a fast and skilful front line and they made a lively start to the midweek encounter, establishing an early lead.

Rangers were back on level terms after Rod Douglas was fouled inside the penalty area and Kyle Jennett dispatched a flawless spot kick.

The match was all square at the half time interval and it was the hosts who made an enterprising start to the second half.

The goal their approach play merited failed to materialise and Armagh Rovers retook the lead with an unstoppable header from a corner.

Rangers’ response to the setback was a positive one and they almost equalised when an incisive move ended with Rod Douglas firing a shot just wide of the target.

As Rangers pressed, they were caught by a devastating counter attack which yielded a third goal for the visitors and took Rovers one game closer to achieving what would be a remarkable 100 per cent league record.

Best for Scarva Rangers – Rod Douglas and Neil Anderson.
