RUGBY: Banbridge put their faith in Adam Doherty to bring home the cash

Banbridge full back Adam Doherty will be on kicking duty on Sunday at Dublin's Aviva Stadium in a bid to win his club €10,000 (£7800).

If he is the only player to nail the drop-kick, Adam will earn a €10,000 cash prize which his club plan to use to help develop pitch and club facilities at their Co Down club base.

He will take a drop- kick from 32m during half-time at Sunday’s Ulster Bank League Final between Cork Constitution and Clontarf.

Players and Club representatives entered via Ulster Bank Rugby Facebook page and Banbridge RFC will represent Ulster at the new Club rugby initiativewhich also features players from MU Barnhall, Bruff and Ballinasloe.

Special guests will include Ulster Bank rugby ambassadors Stephen Ferris and Alan Quinlan who will act as MC for the challenge.

Marc Eadie, Hon Secretary at Banbridge RFC said the club was delighted to be part of this new and exciting challenge, “Ulster Bank’s Drop Kick for your Club is a brilliant competition for our club to be involved in and we wish our player Adam Doherty the best of luck. The club continues to develop and upgrade facilities year on year and monies raised through this fantastic challenge at the Aviva will help us roll out our five year development plan at Banbridge.

“Improvements planned include new ladies and gents toilets as well as enhanced gym and changing facilities plus physio and referee facilities. We’re also planning to replace our internal lighting systems to LED providing a more environmentally friendly and cost effective solution for the club.

“Banbridge is an ever expanding community based club which fields four senior and three youth teams and 200 rugby ‘minis.’ The firsts are delighted to win Section II of the Ulster League and look forward to playing in the top flight division next season. We narrowly missed promotion to Ulster Bank League Division 1B and will aim to continue to go from strength to strength in UBL Division 2A.”

Each club contestant earns £1900 (€2,500) for their club just for taking part and if someone lands the kick, a further £7800(€10,000)will be donated to their club. If more than one kicker is successful, the prize pot of £7800 (€10,000) is shared.

Over the past number of seasons, Ulster Bank has provided over £100,000 in funding to over 170 rugby clubs across the island of Ireland and they are delighted to continue their support with this new initiative during this year’s Ulster Bank League final.
