ROWING: More honours for Bann Rowing Club

THE honours just keep on coming for Bann Rowing Club after several members of their talented squad received international call ups.

For the first time in the club’s proud history two of its rowers, Joel Cassells and Christopher Black, along with coach Seamus Reynolds have been selected for Ireland for the World Championships in Bulgaria this August.

The duo will row together in the Men’s J18 Pair.

It’s an amazing achievement for the pair as even Bann’s famous Chambers’ brothers, who look set to row at this summer’s Olympic Games, didn’t row at this ‘World Level’ at this J18 stage of their careers.

Both rowers have recently beaten Europe’s best International crews including GB, Germany, France and Italy at the Munich Regatta.

And in 2011 they won double European Gold at L’Coupe de la Jeunesse, the only golds Ireland won whilst they were still aged 16.

They are the current holders of the ‘Chambers Pairs Trophy at Bann and since the age of 13 they have been coached by only one man at both club and international level, Seamus Reynolds.

Fellow club mate Chris Alcorn has also been selected by Ireland for the forthcoming Home Championships.

The three Bann Ladies are coached by Geoff Bones.
