Rowe shows the touch 
of a true champion

Few could dispute that is exactly what Jake Rowe is after he lashed home three penalty corners at Shaw’s Bridge.

And before dispatching the last gasp winner, he showed just why it’s the case.

“We were in the huddle before the corner and I said that I’d back myself,” he told the ‘LEADER.’ “It went in and, I don’t know, it was just amazing. I ran straight over to the fans and we didn’t know what to do.”

And speaking after the final whistle, the title of All Ireland champions was one that hadn’t quite sunk in.

“It’s amazing,” he said. “I couldn’t have imagined it. It’s something that you always dream of but it’s crazy that we’ve actually won it.

“Nobody expected us to do that coming into it but the team played very well throughout the whole tournament. We fought back when we needed to in one game during the group stage and showed that we could do it again in the final.

“We didn’t expect it at all. We got out of the groups after a tough win over Mount Temple and went into the semi-finals just hoping. It paid off and we got to the final. We put our all into that game and it took us to the win.”

Now Rowe turns his attention back to Ulster, where he’s hoping to fire his side to McCullough and Burney Cup victories.

He said: “We have one more game in the McCullough group stages and then it’s into the final stages. We’re targetting a win there too.”
