The road to Ravenhill

HAVING beaten Ballyclare Secondary 22-0 in the second round Dromore faced a very difficult trip to Ballymoney for the quarter-final encounter.

This was always going to be a tough battle as it was in the final of the early season Pollock Cup in which Dromore edged it. The Ballymoney pack certainly proved a good match for Dromore as the first half finished level at 7-7.

The Co. Down team eventually took more control in the second half and clinched the match 18-10 – this would undoubtedly have made a fantastic Ravenhill final.

In the semi-final Dromore were drawn at home to Shimna College in what was an eagerly anticipated match. The feeling in some quarters, around the Newcastle area in particular, was that Shimna had potentially a side that was capable of upsetting Dromore with their much-vaunted backline.

Unfortunately for Shimna it was Dromore’s pack that took complete control of the opposition with two tries scored in the first 10 minutes.

Not to be outdone, the backs joined the party to record a comfortable and convincing 39-0 defeat.

And so to Ravenhill...
