Road race in store for West Down Wheelers

WOULD all Wheelers please remember a road race will be held this Thursday night at the quarry circuit.

This is another round for the Imperial Cup. Any rider not intending to ride can turn up and marshal.

The club hopes to get a good photo on the night for the top of their website home page so a good turnout would be appreciated.

Also the club will be heading up to Warrenpoint for a couple of 10s before the season ends .

This Saturday a number of the Wheelers are heading to Lisburn Omniplex to take part in a charity run for the Davy McCall Foundation.

Starting in Lisburn they are heading to Ballygally Castle for a stop. The total distance is 75 miles. The club has always had very good turnouts at charity runs so another good turnout of Wheelers at this event would be excellent.

Once again another Wheeler has given the club something to shout about. Inside his first year and despite having not been cycling for very long Colin Williamson has had the club talking when, in only his second ever TT and on an ordinary bike, he clocked a superb 58 in a recent 25 mile TT at Woodgreen.

Race Secretary Clive Adamson says he isn’t at all surprised for Colin, who was out on a training run couple of nights before, really caught the eye.

He said, “With a proper TT bike and a bit more time on the saddle it’s scary to even think what he could do. Colin is also a top class rower which is his first love.”

This season is fast coming to an end but Clive, who has been delighted with the turnouts, is asking for everyone who can be there to do so and make this the club’s best season ever.
