Banbridge Rangers Reserves got off to a dominating start to the match, controlling possesion and territory in every area of the pitch. The first of the goals in the opening 45 minutes came not long into the match when a Neville Cochrane throw in was flicked on by Dan Thornton leaving John Thompson to fire home from inside the area.

This goal was followed up by a second only a few minutes later when Thompson provided the link in a neat one two with David Sterritt who made no mistake with his finish sliding the ball under the Seagoe keeper.

On 20 minutes Seagoe managed to pull a goal back when a poor kick out left the opposing striker with the easiest of tap-ins.

The goal didnt seem to hinder the home team’s performance with the two goal advantage being restored within several minutes. One of the best goals of the game originated with a forward ball by Trevor Tate to Thornton who layed off to James Beck from the left hand side, Beck showed great technique to lob the keeper from twenty five yards with the outside of his boot.

Prolific striker John Thompson got the next two goals of the half with the first coming via the left hand side after some good build up play by Peter Dean and James Beck.

Thompson’s hat-trick was complete with the other goal coming from a cross from the right hand side by the experienced Davy Sterritt. Seagoe’s second goal of the match came via an error by the Rangers backline with Adamson and Durrans getting wires crossed and Seagoe tapped home a mere consolation even at this early stage. Banbridge Rangers Reserves went into the imterval at 6-2 when Richard Adamson beat the offside trap with a burst of pace from the back and showed great composure to fire across the Seagoe keeper.

The second period only saw one goal but in the initial stages Rangers Reserves went very close to adding to their tally through a good shot by captain Colin Harper before John Thompson hit the post. James Monieths free kick and Thorntons header also threatened before Davy Sterritt set up John Thompson for his fourth goal of the game with an incisive volley.

Banbridge Rangers Reserves played out the rest of the match comfortably and can now look forward to playing Stranmillis Reserves away in Bleary next Saturday afternoon.
